Tracking Access Validation Notification

Beginning April 2026, the United States Postal Service will introduce enhanced security and smarter access controls for tracking data—part of our ongoing commitment to protect your shipments and deliver a more modern, reliable experience. Details on these changes can be found at Tracking API Access Control Changes Release Overview.docx.

Shippers and platforms generating labels on behalf of shippers will continue to receive tracking data at no cost. Other parties who need access will simply complete an Intellectual Property agreement; in some cases, a fee may apply.

With this new access validation, your tracking information will be even better protected and aligned to your Mailer ID (MID) and your relationship to the shipment.

Access will be provisioned based on the MID in the tracking number and the data recipient’s authorized connection to that MID.

These improvements will apply to Tracking APIs, Tracking Webhooks, and Scan Data Extracts. The impacted APIs include:
