UPDATE 174: International Mail Service Updates Related to COVID-19
On June 7, 2021, the Postal Service received notifications from various postal operators regarding changes in international mail services due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The following countries have provided updates to certain mail services:
Estonia UPDATE: Estonian Post has advised that postal services will resume as normal, without restrictions, effective June 14, 2021. From that date, all inbound items requiring the addressee’s signature upon delivery will be handed over against signature. In particular:
- All registered letters will be delivered directly to the addressee;
- All other items that cannot be delivered to a post office box or directly to the addressee will be directed to pick-up points.
Sri Lanka UPDATE: The Department of Posts has advised that due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, the Government of Sri Lanka has extended the current island-wide travel restrictions until June 14, 2021. International airports remain open to cargo flights and a minimal number of passenger flights. All inbound mail will be transported to the Colombo office of exchange, operating with the limited workforce. The processing and delivery of all inbound mail, as well as the transportation of outbound mail, will be heavily impacted by the current situation. The Department of Posts is therefore unable to guarantee compliance with the agreed delivery standards for all mail categories.
Unless otherwise noted, service updates to a particular country do not affect delivery of military and diplomatic mail.
These service updates affect Priority Mail Express International® (PMEI), Priority Mail International® (PMI), First-Class Mail International® (FCMI), First-Class Package International Service® (FCPIS®), International Priority Airmail® (IPA®), International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®), and M-Bag® items.
The DMM Advisory will continue to provide updates as they are received. For a full list of international service disruptions, please visit https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international/welcome.htm
