US Postal Service Files Price and Classification Changes for Competitive Products and International Special Services

The U.S. Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) today of price and classification changes for Competitive Products, including new prices for certain International Special Services and product enhancements for Priority Mail and Parcel Select.

The proposed price and classification changes, approved by the Postal Service Governors, would take effect July 10, 2022.Additional changes extend cubic rates to Priority Commercial Base and introduce cubic rates for Parcel Select Ground packages up to 1 cubic foot.

If reviewed favorably by the PRC, the new prices will be as shown below:

Today’s filing also requested product enhancements for Priority Mail Outbound and Priority Mail Returns.The Postal Service is increasing the included insurance amount to $100 for Priority Mail Outbound from the current amount of $50.Changes will apply to all Commercial Base, Commercial Plus and Retail customers.For Priority Mail Return Service, insurance coverage will also increase to $100.

Changes to the prices for International Money Transfer Service (IMTS) and International Insurance were also included in the filing.

Separate from the filing, the Postal Service is also planning to update the way the distance between origin and destination ZIP Codes is calculated to determine zone assignment. Rather than using the distance between origin and destination plant, the Postal Service will use the distance between 3-digit ZIP Codes to determine zone on July 10, 2022.
