243 Precautions

In the event of a spill, leak, or damage involving harmful substances, Postal Service personnel must take the following precautions to protect themselves, other personnel, and property:

1. Identify harmful properties of the material based on the markings and determine the appropriate precautions.
2. Provide personal protective equipment to employees who must handle the material.
3. Contain and transport leaking containers for proper disposal.
4. Clean and decontaminate facilities and machinery.
