Country Conditions for Mailing — Indonesia
Prohibitions (130)
Books and periodicals printed in any Indonesian language and published outside of Indonesia, except educational books approved by the Indonesian Department of Commerce.
Cloth and batik designs and sarongs.
Cocoa leaves, dried, undried, or powdered.
Coins; banknotes; currency notes (paper money); securities of any kind payable to bearer; traveler’s checks; platinum, gold, or silver (manufactured or not); precious stones; jewelry; and other valuable articles.
Indonesian national currency (rupiahs).
Perishable infectious biological substances.
Radioactive materials.
Used goods (all commodities).
Restrictions
For commercial shipments, import licenses are required. The following articles are not permitted in commercial shipments: articles of gold or silver, including tableware; pens and pencils ornamented with precious metal; calendar watches; linen clothing; natural silk goods; children’s toys operated by steam or electricity; leather goods; coffee essences; coffee substitutes; molasses and sugar substitutes; traditional medicines and supplements; medicine without a doctor’s prescription; cosmetics; bags; footwear; electronics.
In accordance with Regulation No. 36 of 2023, issued by the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, the commodities provided in the following chart may be mailed at or under the listed threshold per postal item. For an entry that contains more than one commodity, the total threshold limit applies to either one commodity or a combination of the commodities, as follows:

Observations
- Customs declarations must show both the gross weight of the entire shipment and the net weight of each item in the shipment.
- Addressees are required to obtain special authorization to receive gift shipments that contain any articles that are considered “luxury or semi-luxury” items (e.g., various kinds of haberdashery, technical goods, foodstuffs, office supplies, cameras and projectors) by the Indonesian authorities.
- Gift shipments must be endorsed “Gift shipment — For the personal use of the addressee.”
- Many articles are subject to an import license or special authorization by the Indonesian authorities. Therefore, senders should ascertain from the addressee before mailing whether the necessary documents are held.
- As of October 17, 2023, all items containing goods sent to Indonesia are subject to taxes and customs duty as follows:
- An item with a value not exceeding 3 USD is subject to a VAT at the rate of 11 percent of the good’s value.
- In most cases, an item with a value exceeding 3 USD but not exceeding 1,500 USD is subject to a VAT at the rate of 11 percent of the good’s value and customs duty at the rate of 7.5 percent. However, the items noted in the following table are subject to a VAT at the rate of 11 percent of the good’s value, plus customs duty and personal income tax at the following rates:

Note: An addressee who does not have an Indonesian tax identification number may be subject to double the amount of personal income tax.
- An item with a value exceeding 1,500 USD is required to undergo a self-assessment procedure.
- A cellular phone mailed to Indonesia must include the phone’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number on the invoice attached to the item. If the sender fails to provide the IMEI number, the cellular phone cannot be activated in Indonesia.
- Certain items of apparel and their accessories are subject to an import duty in respect of security measures in addition to customs duty.
- To facilitate customs clearance and delivery of items, Pos Indonesia (the designated postal operator of Indonesia) requests that the mailer provide the addressee’s mobile telephone number and email address, if possible, on the address label of Registered Mail letters and on the customs declaration form for each item sent with any of the following services: First-Class Package International Service, International Priority Airmail packages (small packets), International Surface Air Lift packages (small packets), Priority Mail International, and Priority Mail Express International.
Global Express Guaranteed (210) Price Group 6

The shipping label is approximately 5.5 inches high and 9.5 inches long.
